What is MEDshields?
MEDshields is a patented Sharklids eyewear brand that provides
a unique self-adhesive, disposable, protective eyeware solution to the medical
industry. MEDshields has an antifog-treated, optically transparent lens that
is held in place using hypoallergenic, medical-grade adhesive. This innovative,
frame-free design delivers an unobstructed field of view while comfortably
remaining in place.
Are MEDShields NFPA certified?
Yes, MEDshields meets NFPA 1999, 2003 edition standards for emergency medical
face protection.
How do MEDshields benefit the medical community?
MEDshields helps protect medical practitioners and their patients
eyes from direct exposure to fluids. Medical service providers and first
responders such as EMTs, doctors, dentists and nurses are exposed to a host
of potentially dangerous fluids and debris. MEDshields can be an effective
tool to reduce the risk of potentially infectious bodily fluids being splashed
into the eyes of medical personnel and their patients. MEDshields are convenient,
can be applied quickly and they provide fog-free, comfortable wear that is
virtually invisible to onlookers.
Can MEDshields be used with a respiratory mask?
Yes. MEDshields can be worn with standard surgical, form-fitting
and molded respiratory masks such as N95 and N100 styles.
Do MEDshields fog up like other eyewear?
With MEDshields it is very difficult for fogging to occur since
both sides of the lens is treated to resist fog formation. Even when worn
in combination with a respiratory mask, MEDshields tends to remain fog-free.
Are MEDshields sterile?
No. But if you do require a sterile product, please contact us
and we can discuss how we can meet your needs.
Are MEDshields UV absorbing?
No, but we can make MEDshields with tinted and reflective films
and treat the lens to be up to 99% UV absorbing. Please contact

How well do MEDshields stay on?
Very well. Our proprietary, skin-friendly, hypoallergenic, medical-grade
adhesive secures the product to the user’s temples. Simply ‘stick
on’ the eyewear, engage in activity and when finished, comfortably
remove the one-piece unit. The adhesive provides unshakable performance for
prolonged periods of time, even when the wearer perspires. So you can bend,
stoop and look down and around without having to readjust your eyewear or
fear that it might shift. And despite its excellent adhesion, MEDshields
adhesive tape effortlessly and painlessly releases from skin.
Does it hurt to remove MEDshields adhesive tabs?
No. Our products use medical-grade, hypoallergenic adhesives that
are suitable for use directly on intact human skin. Additionally, when removing
MEDshields the tape effortlessly and painlessly pulls free from skin.
How do I put on MEDshields?
Simply peel open the package, remove the release liner and place
them on your face. The adhesive tabs should be located on your temples on
intact skin. Try to avoid placing the tabs over hair or cosmetics. For best
results, wash your face before use. Use a mirror if needed to ensure good

Can I wear MEDshields over
regular eyeglasses?
Yes, in some cases. The effectiveness will be dictated by the style
and material composition of your eyewear. The adhesive adheres to some eyeglass
frames. This is a good option if you wear prescription eyewear and would
like to wear our products over your glasses. You can even use our eyewear
as a tearoff by applying them over polycarbonate safety glasses. Then, when
the MEDshields lens become dirty, simply tear them off of the safety glasses
and replace them. This will keep your safety glasses clean and longer-lasting.
Are MEDshields comfortable?
Yes. In fact, they are so lightweight and comfortable that we have
been told that people forget that they have them on. Since our products do
not rely upon frames, there is nothing to pinch against your nose or behind
your ears. Plus, they weigh a fraction of traditional eyewear, so it is almost
like wearing nothing at all.
Do MEDshields come in different sizes?
No, but our one-size-fits-most design can be adjusted to fit almost
everyone. MEDshields has embossed seam lines that allow the wearer to adjust
the fit. By bending the ends of the lens to change the point at which
they stick, this allows for the wearer to move the lens as close to their
eyelashes as they feel is comfortable.
Are MEDshields as clear as traditional
eyewear?
Yes. MEDshields make use of optically clear films that provides
excellent visual clarity, which reduces eye strain. In fact, our frame-free
design delivers an unobstructed field of view since we do not rely upon a
frame to hold the product in place, nothing opaque gets in your way.
Are MEDshields lightweight?
Yes. MEDshields are many times lighter than other eyewear products.
Our eyewear is about as light as a couple of pennies (4 grams) and about
as thin as three human hairs (4 to 12 mil). In fact, they are so lightweight
and comfortable that we have been told that people forget they have
them on.
Are MEDshields flexible?
Yes. MEDshields lens are made from state-of-the-art, thin film
that is flexible enough to comfortably conform to various face sizes and
yet hold their shape.
Are MEDshields reusable?
No. We recommend that MEDshields be discarded after a single use
in medical settings and, of course, if the lens become compromised in some
way or obscured.
Can MEDshields be recycled?
Yes, MEDshields are made from category 1 PETE, recyclable materials.
Consider this; many people wear a variety of plastic safety eyewear or eye
shields in situations where the eyewear becomes damaged, stained or contaminated
and is then discarded as if it were intended for a single use application.
Discarding traditional eyewear is not only costly, but creates many times
more waste than a 4 gram pair of MEDshields.

Are MEDshields patented?
Yes, MEDshields carries a US patent No. 6,984,037 with additional patents pending.
Can the lens shatter?
While our eyewear is not a substitute for safety glasses that are
designed to meet ANSI standards for high velocity impacts, our sunglasses
are manufactured in accordance with FDA regulation 21 CFR 801.410 and are
tested by an independent laboratory to insure our product’s integrity.
Because our lens is made from flexible materials, with regard to shatter
resistance, we fare very well in FDA 'drop ball' testing.
