What is MEDshields?
MEDshields is a Sharklids eyewear
brand that provides a unique self-adhesive, disposable, protective eyeware
solution for the medical industry. MEDshields has an antifog-treated,
optically transparent lens that is held in place via hypoallergenic,
medical-grade adhesives. This innovative, patent-pending, frame-free design
delivers an unobstructed field of view while comfortably remaining in place.
How do MEDshields benefit the medical community?
Our
eyewear helps protect medical practitioners’ eyes from direct
exposure to fluids. Medical service providers and first responders such
as EMTs, doctors, and nurses are exposed to a host of potentially dangerous
fluids and debris. MEDshields can be an effective tool to reduce the risk
of potentially infectious bodily fluids being splashed into the eyes of
medical practitioners or their patients. MEDshields are convenient and
can be applied in less time than it takes to slip on most masks or gloves
and they provide fog-free, comfortable wear that is virtually invisible
to onlookers.
Can MEDshields be used with a respiratory mask?
Yes.
MEDshields can be worn with flat and form-fitting respiratory masks. We
suggest that the lens overlap the mask so that in the case of N95 or other
tight fitting masks the mask remains tightly sealed.
Do MEDshields fog up like other eyewear?
It’s
very difficult for fogging to occur since we treat the inside of the lens
with an antifog agent that resists the fog formation. Even when worn in
combination with a respiratory mask, MEDshields tend to remain fog-free.
Are MEDshields sterile?
No. But if you do require a
sterile product, please contact us and we can provide sterilized eyewear.
Are MEDshields UV absorbing?
No,
but we can make them with UV absorbing films . For example, the UV protective
sunglasses that SharkLids produce use films that are 99% UV absorbing.
How well does the eyewear stay on?
Really well. Our proprietary,
skin-friendly hypoallergenic, medical-grade adhesive secures the product
to the user’s temples. Simply ‘stick
on’ the eyewear, engage in activity and when finished, comfortably
remove the one-piece unit. The adhesive provides unshakeable performance
for prolonged periods of time, even when the wearer perspires. Despite
its excellent adhesion, the tape effortlessly and painlessly releases
from skin leaving little, if any, residue.
Does it hurt to remove the adhesive tabs?
Our products
use medical-grade, hypoallergenic adhesives that are specifically formulated,
tested and approved to be used directly on human skin. Additionally, the
tape releases from skin leaving little, if any residue and effortlessly
and painlessly pulls free.
How do I put the eyewear on?
Simply peel open the package,
remove the release liner and place them on your face. The adhesive tabs
should be located on your temples. Try to avoid placing the tabs over hair
or cosmetics. For best results, wash your face before use or blot your temples if you are sweating. Use a mirror

Can I wear MEDshields over
regular eyeglasses?
Yes, in some cases. The effectiveness will
be dictated by the style and material composition of your eyewear. The
adhesive adheres to some eyeglass frames. This is a good option if you
wear prescription eyewear and would like to wear our products over your
lenses. You can even use our eyewear as a tearoff by applying them over
polycarbonate safety glasses. Then, when the MEDshields lens become dirty,
simply tear them off of the safety glasses and replace them. This will
keep your safety glasses clean and longer-lasting.
Are these eyewear products comfortable?
Yes. In fact,
they’re so lightweight and comfortable that we’ve
been told that people forget that they have them on. Since our products
don’t rely upon frames, there’s nothing to pinch your nose
or behind your ears. Plus, they weigh a fraction of traditional eyewear,
so it’s almost like wearing nothing at all.
Does the eyewear come in different sizes?
Our eyewear
products are one-size-fits-most. Some of our eyewear has embossed seam
lines that allow the wearer to adjust the fit simply by bending the ends

Is the eyewear as clear as traditional eyewear?
Yes.
Our products make use of optically clear films that should not distort
the vision of the wearer. In fact, our frame-free design delivers an unobstructed
field of view since we don’t rely upon a frame to hold the product
in place. Your range of view and peripheral vision is actually better with
our products than most traditional eyewear.
Is the eyewear lightweight?
Yes. Our eyewear is many
times lighter than other products made from expensive, exotic materials.
Our eyewear is about as light as a couple of pennies (4 grams) and about
as thin as three human hairs (4 to 12 mil).
Are the lens stiff?
No. All of our eyewear is based
on state-of-the-art, thin film technologies. Our products comfortably conform
to the wearer’s face yet hold their
shape nicely.
Is the eyewear reusable?
All of our eyewear is economically
designed and priced for a single use. We recommend, at a minimum, that
the eyewear be discarded after a single use in medical settings and, of
course, if the lens become obscured.
Is disposable eyewear bad for the environment?
We don’t
think so. Consider this; many people wear a variety of plastic safety
eyewear or eye shields in situations where the eyewear becomes damaged,
stained or dirty and is then discarded as if it were intended for a single
use application. For instance, if a doctor wears a pair of traditional
polycarbonate safety glasses during a medical emergency he/she may tarnish
the eyewear after being exposed to germ carrying debris or fluids. Discarding
such a pair of eyewear is not only costly, but creates many times more
waste than a 4 gram pair of MEDshields. We do ask that if you regularly
wear our products to please engage in responsible recycling activities.

Is the eyewear expensive?
No. On the contrary, they’re
very inexpensive.
Are these eyewear products unique?
Yes! Until SharkLids
and its MEDShields brand, there has never been a self-adhesive, disposable
eyewear product of its kind .
Is the eyewear patented?
Presently, all of our SharkLids
EyeGear products carry patents wit other patents pending; US Pat No. 6,984,037. We are confident in the soundness
of our intellectual property and have a legal team to oversee our assets,
ensuring that nobody infringes on our intellectual property rights.
What is SharkLids EyeGear?
SharkLids EyeGear, Inc. is
an eyewear innovator, founded in the summer of 2003 as SharkLids EyeGear,
Inc., a Delaware corporation. Our corporate headquarters are in Vermont

Can the lens shatter?
While our eyewear isn't a substitute
for safety glasses that are designed to meet ANSI standards for high velocity
impacts, our SharkLids sunglasses or UV absorbing MEDshields are manufactured
in accordance with FDA regulation 21 CFR 801.410 and are tested by an independent
laboratory to insure our product’s integrity. Because our lens is
made from flexible polyester materials,
with regard to shatter resistance, we fare very well in FDA 'drop ball'
testing.
